Forming Christian scholars for the future of the academy
A three-year doctoral scholarship and faculty formation pathway for exceptional Christian MPhil holders.
The Titi-Ofei Doctoral Scholarships are a signature leadership formation initiative established by Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi-Ofei, Founder and Chancellor of the University of Gold Coast. A lifelong vision of forming leaders for ministry, education, enterprise and society is now being extended into the academy.
The Scholarships identify, support and prepare outstanding Christian scholars for doctoral research, university teaching and academic leadership. This is not simply a PhD funding opportunity. It is a structured pathway into the future faculty of the University of Gold Coast, and applications are now open.
A structured pathway into the future faculty
The Titi-Ofei Doctoral Scholarships provide a limited number of competitive three-year PhD scholarships to exceptional Christian MPhil holders who demonstrate academic promise, research capacity, moral character, teaching potential and a clear commitment to a serious career in higher education.
The Scholarships strengthen the academic architecture of the University by developing a new generation of Christian academics who can contribute to teaching, research, supervision, publication and institutional leadership. Successful applicants pursue doctoral studies while serving as Doctoral Teaching Fellows of the University.
The covenant of formation
Every scholarship is a covenant. In return for the University’s investment, each recipient accepts three binding commitments.
The Doctoral Teaching Fellowship
Integrated into the academic life of the University under senior-faculty mentorship, the Fellow lectures, facilitates tutorials, leads seminars and mentors students for a minimum of twelve hours each week during active teaching periods.
⁂
The Annual Scholarly Output
The Fellow maintains excellent academic progress and contributes to the University’s research culture, producing at least one publishable academic paper each year and completing the PhD within the approved three-year period.
⁂
The Five-Year Service Bond
In recognition of the investment made, the scholar is bonded to serve the University of Gold Coast for a minimum of five years after successful completion of the PhD, in teaching, research, supervision or academic leadership.
⁂
Universities must do more than confer degrees. They must form minds, shape character, advance knowledge and raise leaders who serve.
